No pictures im affraid, just a quick question. My laptop is playing up and i need to send it off repair. Im just worried though as ive heard the internet history and files are recoverable. Its only stuff off sites like this but im worried i will get in trouble for viewing it as im in the UK and im not sure about that new law thats proposed?

Anyone know if its a safe idea to send it off or not?

I am a tech but in Canada, and being a fellow member I could care less of your surfing history.... as well, most techs are not going to have the time to sit and check out what you are doing. Just make sure to empty all temp folders, internet temp, and clear your history. If it is not there, a tech will not take the time required just to see what you look at.

I would feel safe taking it in. By the way, what is wrong with it?

I listened to Radio 2 this morning.
They said that the current state of the law does not make posession of images or videos of extreme sexual violence illegal. In fact, making such is not illegal. Only distributing them is currently illegal.

try getting a window washing program and run it with the higest bleaching system it has, if they want to see what you have been doing then they will have to send it to the C.I.A.......LOL

I work in an IT-business and we do repairements too. We don't look for pictures but sometimes people just save them on their desktop or anything and we got no choice of looking too them.
We would only turn the customer to the police if he's got kiddieporn, for the rest we leave it be.

It actually depends on what the problem is with your laptop, it's perfectly possible to backup data before something happens to it. If a customer wants us to backup his "my documents" for instance (or other files, programs is just technically impossible) we take out the hard drive and hook it up to our own pc and copy files. This is one of the possibilities (or is it "possibility's" ?)

I don't think they really bother too much looking to see what's on it (and I'm sure they've caught some real interesting items before too) ... but it's part of the professionalism to turn a blind eye to most of that stuff: so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Me, too. Here in the US, kiddie porn seems to be all they are after. But it is easy to see how an innocent fetish(small breasts obviously come to mind) could land you in this arena without knowing it. Although Lolita in the site name should set off some internal alarms.
